Olmsted County implications of the nursing home staffing shortages
Remember that article I just published a week ago, about being prepared for care facility staffing shortages? That article was general to the country, and the closest local implication cited was for northwest Wisconsin, today we have an article specific to here in Rochester, Minnesota. According to KAALTV, Samaritan Bethany will be cutting 27 more beds, and that is only the most recent of multiple bed reductions since COVID hit. They are at half (~400 -> ~200) of the staff they’d had as of 5 years ago.
As our aging population increases, and the percentage of our US population over age 65 goes from 15% in 2016 to a forecasted 23% in 2060, if society doesn’t have more care available (instead of less), then we as individuals and families need to be building flexibility and care structures into our family plans.
What is your plan?
